The South Bend Clutch Stage 2 Endurance kit is a single mass flywheel clutch upgrade for TDI 5-speed manual transmissions, rated to conservatively hold 350 ft-lb of torque to the wheels. It replaces the factory dual mass flywheel with a South Bend 22lb single mass flywheel and pairs it with a VR6-style Sachs clutch pack built for daily driving under sustained high-torque use.
What makes this clutch "Silent Design"? Earlier high-torque TDI clutches were known for a rattle at idle — the tradeoff for holding more torque with a single mass flywheel. This kit uses a revised friction disc (released by South Bend in March 2012) that eliminates that rattle. It's the only version of this clutch sold through Kerma TDI.
What's the friction material? The disc uses a dual-friction design: a full-face Feramic (sintered iron) lining on the flywheel side and a high-metal-content organic lining on the pressure plate side. This combination runs cooler than a single-material disc and extends clutch life under repeated hard use.
Who is this clutch for? Kerma recommends Stage 2 Endurance for TDIs that are daily-driven but also see performance modifications — chip tuning, injector upgrades, turbo upgrades — where torque output regularly exceeds stock. It's also suited to rally and endurance-style driving, not just street use.

Why It's Here:
Daily-driven TDIs with real power don't need a race clutch that rattles and chatters at a stoplight. This is the version we sell because it holds the torque without the compromise that used to come with it.
