What it is
This is the in-tank fuel lift pump that comes as factory-standard equipment on A4-body Pumpe Düse (PD/BEW) diesels. KermaTDI also uses it as a performance upgrade on VE-injection-pump TDI models that didn't originally come with it.

Two different uses for the same part

• On BEW (PD) cars: This is the stock OEM replacement part — a direct factory match.
• On VE-pump cars (Mk4 ALH, Mk3 Jetta, B4 Passat): This is a performance upgrade, not a stock part. These cars didn't originally ship with this pump.

Why it helps on VE-pump cars
Adding this pump improves suction-side feed pressure into the injection pump, which improves injection pump performance and longevity. It also adds throttle responsiveness, particularly in the mid and upper RPM range.
