What It Is
A complete Koni Special Active suspension set for the Mk4 TDI platform, replacing Koni's older FSD model with their newer Frequency Selective Damping technology. The kit includes 2 front struts and 2 rear shocks.
How Frequency Selective Damping Works
Comfort and handling pull in opposite directions when it comes to damping. Comfort calls for low damping force during high-frequency suspension movement (around 10 Hz), like small road imperfections, while handling calls for high damping force during low-frequency movement (around 1 Hz), like body roll in a corner. Koni's Frequency Selective Damping technology adjusts damping force based on which frequency the suspension is actually moving at, resolving that conflict without electronic controls. The whole system is purely mechanical, which keeps installation a straightforward bolt-on job.
What You'll Notice
A more controlled, planted feel during cornering and hard driving, without giving up ride comfort over rough roads and expansion joints, since the shock responds differently depending on the type of movement it's absorbing.
What to Pair With It
KermaTDI's Suspension Install Kit is available separately and covers the hardware typically needed alongside a strut and shock replacement.
Fitment
1998-2006 Volkswagen Golf, Jetta, Jetta Wagon, and New Beetle, Mk4 TDI platform.
Common Questions
Does this require any electronic components or wiring?
No. Frequency Selective Damping is a purely mechanical system, so installation is a standard bolt-on job with no electronics involved.
Will this feel harsh on rough roads?
No. The technology is built to smooth out expansion joints and rough pavement while still tightening up handling during cornering and hard driving.
Does this kit include both front and rear?
Yes, it includes 2 front struts and 2 rear shocks, covering the full car.
Do I need any other parts for installation?
KermaTDI's Suspension Install Kit is available separately and covers the typical hardware needed alongside this swap.
