Description

We've put together a no-nonsense Timing Belt Kit for your CKRA.

It's bare bones and really all you need. You don't need to remove the motor mount or motor mount bracket which saves you money on unnecessary hardware. The mount doesn't capture the belt as on a MK4 or MK7, so there's no need to remove it or replace any of those expensive bolts. It also means you don't need to support the motor from below to replace the belt. That means a huge time savings for you.

We include a stud since there will likely be witness marks. We go behind the tensioner is to preserve a nice interface between the nut and the stud where it matters. The tensioner nut and lower roller nut are technically always a replace, but they'll be in good shape, so just reuse them and you'll be fine. Same goes for the HPFP bolts, cam sprocket bolts, and crank pulley bolts. All those are M8 fasteners, and they're all perfectly happy at 15-18ftlbs. The big roller bolt (included) goes to 37ftlbs + additional 90deg. Use a torque wrench on that to ensure proper installation.

Included in the kit:

  • Large Roller Bolt
  • Timing Belt Tensioner Mounting Stud
  • Timing Belt
  • Serpentine Belt
  • Upper Timing Belt Idler Roller
  • Timing Belt Tensioner
  • Engine Timing Belt Idler (small)
  • Engine Timing Belt Idler (large)
  • Engine Water Pump
  • 1.5 Liters G13 Coolant (optional)

Technical Notes and Procedure:

Timing Belt Tools are required. You can find those HERE.

  1. Lock everything down with the applicable fixtures.
  2. Drop tension & remove the belt with the cam sprocket.
  3. Remove the tensioner nut & slide the tensioner outward.
  4. Reach behind the tensioner with slip-joint pliers.
  5. Loosen the tensioner stud.
  6. Remove the stud by hand with the tensioner.
  7. Install the new tensioner with the stud (tighten the stud to approx. 10ftlbs, but leave the nut loose).
  8. Replace the other components.
  9. Tension the belt.
  10. Verify timing (2x rotation of the crank).
  11. Finish reassembly.
