What it is
The Colt Cams Stage 2 Billet PD Camshaft is a forged-steel replacement camshaft for Volkswagen's 1.9L BRM Pumpe Düse (PD) TDI engine, used in 2005.5–2006.5 Jetta models. It is machined from a solid billet rather than cast, and is manufactured by Colt Cams. KermaTDI is the exclusive U.S. distributor.

Why the factory BRM camshaft fails prematurely
The OEM BRM camshaft is chill-cast, which gives it a shallow hardened layer. Combined with a steep initial ramp angle on the lobe profile, this concentrates load in the area with the least wear resistance. This is a documented failure pattern across BEW, BHW, BRM, PD130, and PD150 PD engines, not an isolated defect.

What's included with the Basic Install Kit
8 black-nitride cam followers, 10 camshaft bearing shells, 10 bearing journal cap bolts, 8 injector rocker bolts, OEM tandem pump gasket, PTFE cam seal, cam assembly lube, ZDDP zinc additive.

What's included with the Deluxe Cam Change Kit
Everything in the Basic kit, plus a full timing belt kit (belt, tensioner, idler roller), serpentine belt, water pump, motor mount bolts, coolant, valve cover gasket, and a full oil change kit (oil, oil filter, cabin filter, air filter, fuel filter — specify 1-hole or 2-hole).

Break-in procedure
Apply cam lube to all lobes, lifter faces, distributor gears, and oil pump gears. Oil all bearing journals and lifter barrels. Rotate the engine by hand before first start. Run the engine at 1,800–2,000 RPM for 18–20 minutes after startup.

Does this cam fit a 2004 BRM Jetta? No — BRM production for this fitment starts at 2005.5 model year.

Is a chilled cast cam sufficient for a BRM engine? Not recommended long-term. Chill-cast cams work well in non-PD engines like the ALH, but the injector-rocker loads in PD engines wear through the shallow hardened layer faster than in a non-PD application.

Does the warranty apply if I install the cam myself with my own parts? No — the 5-year/unlimited-mile warranty requires purchase with a KermaTDI install kit.
