This basic tensioner spanner will fit most pre 1999 VW/Audi timing belt tensioners (gas or diesel). This is the exact tool needed for 1996-1997 Passat TDI and 1997-1999.5 Jetta TDI engines. Machined from 1 piece of solid alloy steel - no pins to rip out.

Sturdy vinyl grip.

Not recommended for Mk4 TDIs that were introduced in mid 1999 - those models need Metalnerd's MN3333 tool due to the confined spaces involved.

Note: this is not for your alternator belt tensioner.
